mask
She laughs because she can't cry.
Knowing what harm it does.
So she wears a mask,
That could best the jester's
With a smile carefully put in place,
She walks about her day
Under that mask a small girl cries.
Lost and lonely and ready to die
Huddled in a corner in the only light.
She watches the shadows,
as they creep closer.
She holds her hope,
In a silver locket that once was gold.
Clings to it in vain faith,
That one day she will be able to run from the shadows.
Knowing that it will never come true .
She watches over me and you.
Looking through the eyes of that smiling girl you see.
She laughs but with tears in her eyes
